Maplewood-- Talmage M. Clayton, 80, R.R. 1, died today at 3:30 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Hospital where he had been hospitalized since Thursday. He had been ill a week.

Born Dec. 10, 1893, in Waynes County, Tenn., he was the son of Frank and Cecilia (Brewer) Clayton.

On Sept. 1, 1912 he and the former Bertha Shively were married. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year.

She survives with eight children, James T., Piqua, Donald C., Houston, Mrs. Georgia L. Young, Mrs. Alvin (Edna Ruth) May, and Mrs. Betty Willoughby, all of Sidney, Kenneth, Quincy, Robert P., Sanford, Fla., and The Rev. Larry Clayton, Cleveland; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired factory worker, a former Sidney High School custodian and had also worked for the railroad. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Sidney.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. William Hovestreydt officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cemetry, Port Jefferson.

Friends may call at the Dearth Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 11:30 a.m.
