Mrs. Rose, 72, passed away Aug. 15, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center, Pineville, after a brief illness. The Rev. Dr. J. Derek Harbin, assisted by the Rev. Martin F. McCarthy, will conduct a Requiem Eucharist and celebration of her life at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at St. Johns Episcopal Church on Carmel Road. At a later date the family will have an interment service at the family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery adjacent to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro. Mrs. Rose was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Winston-Salem, to the late Harry G. and Beulah Conrad Sharp. Her family moved to Greensboro in 1940 and she graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1949. She attended Womans College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro before marrying the love of her life, Chester A. Rose Jr. She accompanied her husband on career assignments in Portland, Maine, Pittsfield, Mass. (twice), Schenectady, N.Y. (twice), Lynchburg, Va., New York, N.Y. (twice), Toronto, Ontario, and Seattle, Wash. and left a wide circle of friends. They retired to River Hills Plantation in Lake Wylie, S.C. in 1982 and moved to Charlotte in 1990. Mrs. Rose was predeceased by her brother, Harry G. Sharp Jr., a World War II hero and career naval aviator and by her first son, Chester A. Rose III. She is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, three daughters, a son and eight grandchildren. Deborah Jean and L. Norman Krahn live in Calgary, Alberta with their daughters, Sarah-Jean Michelle and Emily Elizabeth Rose. Melinda Gordon and William N. Eichorn live in Charlotte with their sons, William Newsome IV, Jonathon Conrad and Robert James; as do Susan Elizabeth and George C. Shield Sr. with their children, Melinda Katherine, Elizabeth Houston and George Cabell Jr. Bryan Conrad Rose also resides in Charlotte. Mrs. Rose was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the PEO sisterhood. She had been an avid traveler and golfer and active in Girl Scouts and Meals-On-Wheels as well as womens, garden and gourmet clubs in cities of residence. She was a dedicated member of Church of the Beloved, an emerging Episcopal congregation in Charlottes South Perimeter. To her family and those who knew her, she was a loving wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, an accomplished cook and acclaimed hostess, a caring Christian and a devoted friend. The family will receive friends in the church Parish hall following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Development Office, Church of the beloved, 115 West Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C. 28202.
