A retired Navy Commander who served 22 years as a pilot, he came to South Lake Tahoe with his family three and a half years ago. He was a native of Greensboro, N. C. and received his education from the University of North Carolina.
With the establishment of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce News Bureau in July 1966, Sharp became its director. He then took over as head of the bureau when it was reorganized as a municipal department July 1, 1967.
Prior to his position with the news bureau, Sharp was public relations director for Tahoe Paradise, Inc.
He and Tahoe Paradise President Jim A. E. Wilson were personal friends, having flown together in World War II.
Sharp earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Gold Star for serial combat in the South Pacific during World War II.
Surviving Sharp are his wife Georgianna; son Harry, III, who is a Naval Ensign in flight training in Corpus Christi, Tex.; daughter Gayle, who is a sophomore at American River College, Sacramento; his stepmother Mrs. Harry Sharp, Greensboro, N. C.; and a sister, Mrs. Chester A. Rose, Jr., Schenectady, N. Y.
He was an active participant in a community affairs, serving as a director of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Lake Tahoe Press Club, a member of the American Legion, Retired Officers Association and Rotary Club. He was a past president of the Highway 50 Association.
Sharp was an elder of the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
His wife has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the church building fund in his name.
Services are being handled by the McFarlane Mortuary in Tahoe Valley. Friends may call anytime Saturday or Sunday at the funeral home to pay their respects.
Rev. Irvin Morris will officiate at the funeral services Monday at 2 p.m. in the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
Interment will follow in Happy Homestead Cemetery.
