Harry G. Sharp Sr., 75, of 108 West Avondale, who devoted much of his life to the development of the Greensboro Central YMCA, died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday at Moses Cone Hospital after an illness of one week.

Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Forbis and Dick Funeral Chapel.

Sharp began his work at the Greensboro Central YMCA in 1917 when he was employed there. He left in 1923 to go into the C. L. Sharp Co. wholesale produce business in Winston-Salem. In 1940, he returned to Greensboro to serve as General Secretary of the Central YMCA. He served in that capacity until 1955 when he jointed Investors Diversified Services.

For his work in developing the Y, Sharp received an honorary life membership.

Sharp also participated in many other civic and community activities in Greensboro during his life time. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Greensboro Rotary Club, United Commercial Travelers, Masonic Lodge No. 76, the Shrine Club, and the Hard Rock Coffee Club.

He was a veteran of World War I where he served as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Esther Burch Sharp; son Harry G. Sharp Jr. of South Lake, Calif.; daughter, Mrs. Chester Rose Jr. of Schenectady, N. Y.; brother, Allen Sharp of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Mrs. Brantley Booe and Mrs. Elizabeth Grimes, both of Winston-Salem and Mrs. George Bowermaster of Huntington, W. Va.
