Joseph David Babin's old ticker gave out on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the young age of 91. Beloved husband of 61 years to Elizabeth Mumford Babin. Cherished father of Sharon Babin Beaman and husband James, Sheena Babin Banks, Michael Babin and wife Becky and Elizabeth Babin English. Wonderful and loving Granddad of Erin Beaman, Caitlyn Beaman Piper and husband Christopher, LT James Beaman Jr., USN, CPT Peter Banks, USA, Ann Banks, HM3 Timothy Banks, USN, ENS Dennis Banks, USN, Daniel Banks, Michael Babin, Stephen Babin, Yvette English and Alexis English. Adoring Great Granddad of Grace Beaman, Kiley Piper and Ethan Piper. He is preceded in death by his parents Lydia Bernard Babin and James Babin. Joseph was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina chased him and Elizabeth out of New Orleans to Shreveport. He honorably served his country during World War II, stationed in Newfoundland, as a Staff Sergeant and radio operator. Joseph was never mediocre at anything in life, except dying. He was known for his quick witted humor and love of brussels sprouts, storytelling but most of all for his love of his family. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Visitation and services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA on Monday, October 24, 2011, from 9:30 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3. His wishes were that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Foundation, in lieu of flowers
