Elizabeth Genevieve

Mumford Babin (Meme)

NEW ORLEANS/SHREVEPORT Elizabeth Genevieve Mumford Babin (Meme) was born on December 23rd 1922 in New Orleans, grew up in Mid City, graduated from Sacred Heart of Jesus High School and was a lifelong resident until 2005 when they had to relocate to Shreveport due to Hurricane Katrina. She was a homemaker, a very talented artist and was known for her quick wit, strong passion in her Catholic faith and for being the sweetest mother and grandmother in the world. Elizabeth battled Alzheimer's for many years which progressively worsened over the past 1 year and 8 months since the loss of her husband and the love of her life of 61 years, Joseph David Babin. Because of Elizabeth's inability to remember that her "J" had passed away, our family decided to not make her continually suffer in re-learning about his death but decided to tell her that he was out running errands or was working at their house and that he would pick her up later. Many times throughout the day, she would attempt and sometimes successfully call their old home phone number to remind him to come pick her up and would prepare for his arrival by packing up her belongings. On Sunday, June 16, 2013, God finally answered her call and allowed her husband, our father, granddad and great granddad to finally take her home. Elizabeth was 90 years old and is the cherished mother of Sharon Babin Beaman and husband James, Sheena Babin Banks, Michael Babin and wife Becky and Elizabeth Babin English. Loving and proud grandmother of Erin Beaman, Caitlyn Beaman Piper and husband Christopher, LT James Beaman Jr., USN, Peter Banks, Ann Banks and fiancé Nick Prock, Timothy Banks, LTJG Dennis Banks, USN, Daniel Banks, Michael Babin, Stephen Babin, Yvette English and fiancé Joshua Porte and Alexis English. Adoring great grandmother of Grace Beaman, Kiley Piper and Ethan Piper. She is preceded in death by her parents Peter F. Mumford and Loretta Monaghan Mumford, two brothers and four sisters. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her including her numerous grand dogs. Visitation and services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, on Friday, June 21, 2013, from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3. The family would also like to thank her caregivers for their service and love provided to Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Foundation.
