The only daughter of James Irving Peeler and Melissa Jane Snider, Malissa graduated from Hardin High School in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois.
She played an important role in the founding of the Pentecostal Church in Hardin, and served as as the church pianist. She worked with her father as a secretary for Modern Woodman.
Malissa married Vernice Clayton Powell on 21 Nov 1945 in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a farmer in the East Hardin area. They did not have any children.
Vernice passed away in 1982.
Malissa lived until 2004. She died at Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 20 days.
She was survived 1 niece; 4 nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband, Malissa was preceded in death by her mother and father; 3 brothers, Raymond Peeler, Howard Peeler and Forrest Peeler, who died in infancy; and 1 nephew, Ray Edward Peeler.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the beginning of funeral services at noon on 04 Mar 2004 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Malissa was buried next to her husband and parents.
