Fort Branch, Indiana November 18, 1901 LITTLE GIRL MEETS HORRIBLE FATE at FORT BRANCH Clothing Caught Fire and Quick Assistance Failed to Save Her Life. Fort Branch, Indiana, November 18 The Little five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Austin died here Saturday afternoon as a result of being horribly burned. The little girl was playing near the fire Saturday morning, while her mother was doing some work outside, when her clothes caught fire. The screams of the child brought the mother to the house, but before her clothing could be removed, the flames had fatally burned the body. The body, face and neck were burned fearfully and the child suffered untold agonies until death resulted in the afternoon. The funeral of the little girl took place from the family residence this morning at 10:30, and Interment took place in the cemetery near hear.
