Viola lost her first husband, Mervin Lewis Burkey, in a mine explosion in 1922. They had 5 children. She married Arthur Johns 23 Feb 1928. Arthur was killed in a gas main blast in 1929. They had a daughter.

Mrs. Viola (Bash) Johns of Shelocta, born April 7, 1897, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in Indiana Hospital. She was the wife of Arthur Johns, deceased, and the daughter of Alonzo and Cora Buterbuagh Bash. She had resided in the Shelocta community for about 20 years. Funeral services will be conducted in the First United Presbyterian Church of Shelocta, Tuesday, June 9 at 3:30 p.m., in charge of the Rev. Charles Reynolds an interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.

Survivors are the parents named above; three sons, Clifford Burkey of Commodore, Bernon Burkey at home, and Arnold Burkey of Buffalo, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Twila Ramer of Shelocta, Mrs. Louise Ramage of Indiana, and Ruth Johns at home. Six brothers survive: Donald Bash of Indiana, R.D., Benton Bash of Conneat, Pa., Homer Bash of California, Pa., Jess Bash of Indiana, R.D., Walter Bash and Hale Bash, both of Shelocta; two sisters; Mrs. Florence Burkey of Penn Run and Mrs. Lucille Millen of North Apollo, Pa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
