Bernon was a WWII Army Veteran. He served as a Pfc in Btry B 331th Fa. Ba. 86th Div. (artillery). He was active from April 24, 1944 to May 16, 1946. Bernon trained in California and then served in France, Germany and Australia. He married Helen Conrad on October 3, 1944.

R. BERNON BERKEY, 67, Shelocta RD 3, died Friday, Aug. 11, 1989, at Altoona Veterans Hospital.
The son of Mervin and Viola Bash Berkey, he was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Arcadia.
Having lived his entire life in Indiana County, Mr. Berkey was a member of Grace Independent Baptist Church, Shelocta; Disabled American Veterans; and American Legion Post 945.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic with the McNaughton Brothers, Indiana. Mr. Berkey also served in the Black Hawk division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: James and Clifford.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Robinson-Lytle's, Indiana, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Delmas C. Knight will officiate with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis Funds.
