JOSEPH J. CRAIG, FORMERLY OF DOWNS, DIES AT AGE OF 80
Joseph J. Craig, 80, retired farmer of Downs, who for the last several years made his home with his son, Cheney E. Craig, 29 Payne Place, Normal, died at 3 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was stricken with paralysis Monday evening.
A short service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the John A. Beck chapel and the funeral will be at Downs at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Hopewell cemetery there.
Mr. Craig was born December 13, 1851, at the homestead of his pioneer parents, Alexander P. and Lora Craig, a half mile east of downs, then called Delta. He was one of eight children, all now deceased except Alexander B. of Downs who is 82 years old.
Mr. Craig was married to Anna Straight on June 2, 1874 at the home of John and Minnie Mikel in Bloomington. His wife died April 11, 1910.
He is survived by eight children: John W. Craig of Hammond, Ind.; Nittie Mikel of Downs; Della Chariton of Heyworth; Cheney E. Craig of Normal; Forrest L. Craig of Los Angeles, Calif.; Bessie Fanning, Floyd G. Craig and Lucy Jones, all of Bloomington. All the childre were at the bedside when death came except Forrest L., who could not be there.
