Grandpa taught me how to play canasta; once in a while I actually beat him! He couldn't read English, but spoke it well. When I saw his newspapers all written in Hebrew, I wondered how he could read that! He never said he loved me, but back in those days, who did? But every time we left after a visit he gave David and me each $5. That was a lot of money! He was a very talented painter; he painted all our rooms and made an incredible ceiling in the kitchen that we never painted over, even after all these years. We always referred to him as a "paintner;" I guess that must have been what he said he was.

I'll never forget the look in his eyes when he arrived from Brooklyn to our house in Springdale, CT the day Grandma died. He was lost. She was his everything.

I'll see you again one day, Grandpa.
