Virgil Dale Poor, age 66, of Winslow, AR; passed on to his heavenly home Saturday September 24, 2011 in Winslow. He was born December 12, 1944 to Pete and Pearl Johnston Poor in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
He started as a caddy at the Fayetteville Country Club golf course at the age of seventeen. He worked there until he began to work at Paradise Valley Golf Course for Ellis Bogan. When Mr. Bogan passed away he took over the golf course and remained there for 30 years. He then helped to build the Oak Ridge Golf Course in Huntsville, Arkansas. In 1992 he moved to Winslow to be close to his family. His church family was the United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter and his mother and father as well as four sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joann Poor, one son, Paul Wayne Poor and his wife Judy of Van Buren, one brother, Van Poor of Winslow, AR and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday September 27, 2011 at Moore's Chapel. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Pense Cemetery with Gary B. Lunsford officiating and under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.
