Pete Poor is the son of John Henry Poor and Mary Odelia née West Poor (spelled "Poore" on their shared headstone), and he was born in 1894 in Chester, Arkansas. One of nine children in the Poor family.


Pete married Miss Pearl Johnston in Mountainburg, Crawford, Arkansas on 25 July 1920 when Pete was 26 and Pearl 18.

Together, they had three sons: Verlin, Van, and Virgil

and four daughters: Violet, Vesta, Vonne and Vera.


At the time of Pearl Johnston Poor's passing in 1988, they also had seventeen grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
