MRS. HALLOWELL DIES

Pneumonia Fatal to Well Known
Resident at California, Mo.


Mrs. Jennie Harris Hart Hallowell, aged 62 years, 11 months and 14 days, wife of Patrick E. Hallowell of 201 North Judson, a resident of Fort Scott since 1898, passed away at her temporary home in California, Mo., Sunday morning at 7:30 o'clock following a six days illness from pneumonia, She was taken to the California hospital to have special care.

The news of her death causes sorrow among a wide circle of friends. On Saturday, when her condition became serious, all her children were called to her bedside. Mr. Hallowell, who was a most devoted husband, had been employed for several months in California.

Jennie Harris was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simeon R. Harris and she was born in Dade county, Missouri, February 17, 1872. She came to Fort Scott in 1898. She was first married to Amos Jones, who was employed by the Frisco, in 1889. They resided in Scammon. He died in 1896. To the union was born a daughter, Mrs. Eva Dorey of Fort Scott, and a son, Clarence Jones of Pittsburg, Kas. Mrs. Hart was married to James Hart, a prominent capitalist and real estate owner, in 1902. He passed away in 1915. One Daughter, Mrs. Bessie Streeter, born to this union survives. There are also two grandchildren.

She was married to Patrick E. Hallowell in Kansas City, Mo., October 5, 1918. Mrs. Hallowell also leaves two brothers, John Harris and Will Harris (Bentley), of Fort Scott.

Her aged mother, Mrs. Katherine Harris, who on Christmas day was 84 years old, has made her home with Mrs. Hallowell for a great many years and her daughter gave her the most affectionate care.

Mrs. Hallowell was a faithful member of the Methodist church and also of Olive Chapter No. 13 O.E.S. and of the S.B.A. and Degree of Honor lodges. She had a very sweet personality and was kindly, cheerful, patient and hospitable, very devoted to her home and family. Her Christian life is an example to others. While in California, she made new friendships, enjoyed attending the Sunday school and church services, and found much joy living in a simple way, without care of a large house.

The body lies in state at the Konantz chapel until Tuesday morning when it will be taken home. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hallowell home, 201 North Judson. Rev. B.W. Young will conduct the services. The body will be placed in the Hart vault in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ed White, Ralph Richards, Joe Lester, Ed Knox, Fred Norton and Dwight Carlin.
