"BENTLEY" HARRIS DIES
FOLLOWING HIP BREAKS
William E. Harris, 70, better known as "Bentley" a retired barber and recently custodian at the Rock Creek lake, died this morning at 2:45 at the Burke Street hospital. Death resulted from two fractures of the hip. He suffered the first fracture on January 2, and on June 12 sustained the second break. He lived at 523 South Main street.
The deceased was born in Dade County, Missouri, January 1, 1869. He was married to Daisy Grassmuck in Fort Scott on October 17, 1899. The wife died on March 18, 1935.
He is survived by a daughter Mrs. Josephine Erickson, a granddaughter, Joanna Erickson, and a brother, Jack Harris, all of this city.
"Bentley" had resided in Fort Scott for 50 years. He came to this city at the age of 20, and entered the barber profession. He worked at all the prominent barber shops around town and was regarded as a high class workman.
He was interested in outdoor life and was a lover of fishing and baseball. After retiring as a barber he was named custodian of the Rock Creek lake and held this position until his health became impaired.
For the past eight years he had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Martin.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the Cheney chapel, conducted by the Rev. B.W. Young of the First Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery.
The body is at the Cheney chapel.
