MRS. EVA DOREY, WIDOW OF LATE C.F. DOREY, DIES
Prolonged Period of Failing health, Climaxed by Stroke, End in Death Today.
KNOWN AS A MUSICIAN
She Was an Accomplished Organist and Vocalist, and at One Time Was a Music Teacher.
Mrs. Eva Jones Dorey, widely known musician and the widow of the late Charles F. Dorey, died today at 12:40 at the Main street hospital. She suffered a stroke of paralysis two weeks ago and was taken to the hospital, and this condition brought on an emergency operation Monday night from which she never rallied.
Mrs. Dorey has been in failing health for about six years and last winter underwent an operation in the Research hospital in Kansas City. She seemed well on the road to her old self until this stroke.
Eva Jones was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Jones and was born in Scammon, Kas., 49 years ago October 18. She came to Fort Scott with her parents when just a child and has lived here continuously since.
She attended the Fort Scott schools, and received her musical degree from Christian College in Columbia, Mo. She was not only an organist and pianist of unusual ability, but possessed a lovely soprano voice. She played the organ at the First Methodist church for years, and had a large class of piano pupils at one time.
After her marriage to Charles Dorey they lived at Second and Judson streets. After his death on August 7, 1925, Mrs. Dorey lived in the Jones property, then in the Liepman apartments.
She possessed a sympathetic nature and was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving in her immediate family are a brother, Clarence, of Pittsburg, and a half-sister, Mrs. Bessie Streeter, of Dallas, Tex.
Funeral arrangements are not completed, but will be published tomorrow.
