Earl Winton Allen

ROANOKE, Va. — Earl Winton Allen, 78, of 263 Carrion Run Road, Roanoke, passed away on September 7, 2011 following an extended illness.

He was born on August 28, 1933, a son of the late Elbert Allen and Carrie (Bradford) Allen. His wife, Christine Marie Daniel of 50 years preceded him in death in March of 2003.

Earl is survived by two sons Ronald Allen and David Allen both of Fairdale. Also surviving are six grandkids Joni, Ashley, Kelsey, Emily, Chad, Ronald (Rondo), Seth, and one very special great-granddaughter Kierstien. In addition to his children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren he is survived by two nephews Emmett Daniel, and one special nephew Jim Hurst of Roanoke. Also, a very close friend, Matthew Snyder Jr. of Roanoke.

Earl was retired from the United States Marine Corps and served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star and numerous other combat awards. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator qualified to operate almost every type of equipment.

Mr. Allen was a very unique "old Timer" who enjoyed hunting, fishing and the wonderful outdoors. He also took a special interest in helping others. Mr. Allen will be sadly missed by all who know him.

At the request of Mr. Allen there will be no public viewing or formal funeral services. A graveside services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
