Robert 'Bob' Allen



Robert "Bob" Allen, 88 years old, of Fairdale, W.Va., loving husband and father, passed away May 15, 2009, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, W.Va., following a short illness.

Born October 7, 1920, at Bryson, W.Va., which is now known as Maple Meadow in Fairdale, W.Va. He was the son of the late Elbert Allen and Carrie Bradford Allen of Fairdale.

He was a retired coal miner of Ranger Fuels, Inc. He was a member of the UMWA. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II, and was a lifetime member of the Post 11307 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bolt, W.Va.

He was one of 10 children and, other than his parents, was preceded in death by his sister, Ernie Allen Trump of Bolt, W.Va.; a sister, Inez Allen Cole of Fairdale, W.Va.; a sister, Martha Allen of Fairdale, W.Va.; a brother, John W. Allen of Rainelle, W.Va.; and a brother, Sebert Al Allen of Florida.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 55 wonderful years, Edna Acord Allen of Fairdale, W.Va.; a daughter, Carrie L. Clemons and husband, Eric, of Fairdale, W.Va.; a son, Hobert L. Allen and wife, Paula, of Eccles, W.Va.; a son, James R. Allen and wife, Patricia, of Rock Creek, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Michael Blankenship of Bolt, W.Va., Jason Blankenship of Beckley, W.Va., Bradley Allen Blankenship of Mexico City, Mexico, Missy Mancini of Virginia Beach, Va., Allison Allen of New Bern, N.C., and Garrett Allen of Rock Creek, W.Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Blankenship of Arnett, W.Va., Donovan Mancini and Antonio Mancini of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by four brothers, Virgil Allen and wife, Shirley, of Fairdale, W.Va., Earl Allen of Roanoke, W.Va., Shirley (Windy) Allen of wife, Phyllis, of Fairdale, W.Va., and Wandell Allen and wife, Linda, of Columbus, Ind.

A special heartfelt thanks goes out to all who provided comfort, prayer, and care, with special thanks to Robert C. Yee, M.D., and his faithful assistant, Cathy, for their special efforts.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 18, 2009, at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, W.Va. Cremation will follow with a private graveside ceremony at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be mailed to P.O. Box 40, Fairdale, WV 25839, in care of Edna Allen. All donations will be presented to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, W.Va., in honor of the Allen family and friends.
