Shirley "Windy" Allen, age 83, of Fairdale passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Raleigh General Hospital. Windy was a former coal miner and auto mechanic. He enjoyed gardening, cutting firewood, telling stories, and helping out family and friends. He was the 1951 National Marble Champion. Windy had the ability to put a smile on the face of everyone he met. He was quick with a silly joke and it seemed as if he knew everyone.

He was born on August 14, 1937 in Spanker Branch, WV to the late Elbert Allen (Deceased) and Carrie Bradford-Allen (Deceased). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Harless Allen (1920–2009), John William Allen (1922–2007), Oliver Sebert Allen (1927–2004), Willis Virgil Allen (1931–2011), and Earl Winton Allen (1933–2011); and two sisters, Ernestine Jessie Allen-Trump (1918–1987), and Inez Icie Allen-Cole (1924–2007).

He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Phyllis Ann Griffith-Allen (B. 1947) whom he married on December 18, 1963 in Surveyor, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1963, Page 312, Application Date: December 11, 1963); a son, Cody Allen & wife Jamie Allen of Jackson, GA, three daughters, Rebecca Allen-Nelson & husband Dusty Nelson, Kathy Allen-Daniel & husband Lowell Daniel, and Wendy Allen-Howerton & husband Mike Howerton, all of Fairdale, WV; one brother, Wandell Allen & wife Linda Allen of Columbus, IN; twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Windy's request was to have no formal service. In conclusion, please remember him for his sense of humor, his good nature, and his friendship to so many in the community. He will be missed.
