Four children had gone before their mother. In the summer of 1905 Lars Petersen came to Valley County and took up farming at Gravel Creek where he has lived since. About a year after coming here his son, Hans was kicked by a horse and died shortly after. Lars Petersen was a strong man until about a year agowhen his health began to fail. The last two months he suffered much from cancer which finally took his life. Last Friday he was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. A.P. Jensen, where he died Sunday, February 27, at 9:55 p.m. being 57 years and three days of age. At the last his suffering subsided so that his death came peacefully.
