He could be described as hardworking, dedicated, and a true servant of the Lord. After his time in the US Marine Corps, he opened his own business, Shelton Body Shop. He later handed over the shop to his Son Ed and is still in operation after 60 years.
He was well known for his church bus ministry. This started with transporting the neighborhood kids in an old station wagon to church on Sunday mornings. Soon he was going door to door inviting children as well as their parents to church. His old station wagon was traded for a passenger van which was later traded for an old school bus. The bus was often filled with excited children and their parents as he supplied some with their only chance to go to church. He never passed up a chance to tell anyone about his walk with God.
Surviving Siblings include Sisters Phyllis Tucker, Annette Holmes, Treva McGuire, and Brothers Dewey Shelton and George Shelton. He is preceded in death by his parents along with three Brothers, Hubert Shelton, Gerald Shelton, and Lloyd Shelton and two sisters, Anna Marie Wilson and Fay Arthur.
Survivors also include two sons, Phillip Edward Shelton (Vicky) of Bloomington, Ricky Dean Shelton (Kim) of Bloomington, and one daughter Joetta Diane (Sam) Figg of Ellettsville. He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Wayne Shelton Jr. He has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was an excellent example of what a father should be to his four children and will be greatly missed.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Day Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM, and one hour prior to the service.
