Charlie Sanders Carter of Madison, NC. died Saturday September 10, 2011, at 9:17a.m. He was born September 17, 1918 in Stokes County, Prestonville, NC, to Richard and Della Rhodes Carter. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter was a farmer, carpenter and painter and owned a mobile home park. He was a worker and liked to stay busy in his garden and work in the yard, he also liked to travel.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Hazel Grogan Carter; daughters and sons-in-law; Shelvie and Jamie Dodson of Sandy Ridge, Dianne and Jesse Hill of Florence, SC; grandsons and their wives, Sheldon (Bo) and Cathy Dodson and Danard Dodson of Sandy Ridge, Kevin and Winifred Hawkins of Hartsville, SC, Kembly and Rosie Hawkins of Timmonsville, SC; granddaughter and husband, Ta-Juana and Homer Thompson of Florence, SC; Great grandchildren, Brittany and Kyra Dodson of Sandy Ridge, Kevin Hawkins, Jr. of Oklahoma, Robbie, Travis and Rebecca Hawkins of Hartsville, SC, Michael and Shane Hawkins of Timmonsville, SC, Johanna and Jessica Blackmon of Florence, SC; great grandson, Daniel Lee Hawkins of Oklahoma; sisters, Leola Reid of Walnut Cove and Doris Hughes of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Luann Dodson, brothers Royal, Edward, and James Carter; sisters, Lonie Beck, Stella Wilkins and Lorene Carter.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Ayersville Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Roy Little and Dr. James Wall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at Ray Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2011, other times at the home.
