REID – Walnut Cove
Leola Mae Carter Reid, May 26, 1922 – January 18, 2022. Leola Reid, 99, of Walnut Cove, went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a brief battle with covid and a long battle with dementia.
Leola was born in the Prestonville Community of Stokes County to James Richard and Della Rhodes Carter. She was one of nine children. Leola married the love of her life, E. V. (Tony) Reid on March 13, 1948 in a double ceremony with friends Vivian and Avery Ward. They were married for 52 years and were blessed with one daughter, Rita in 1951. Leola spent most of her life as a homemaker. She attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a member since she was 16. She loved her church and sang in the choir, the quartet, and she taught Sunday School. She was a very godly woman. Her family can't remember a day before dementia that she didn't spend much of her day reading the Bible or watching Billy Graham, Charles Stanley or TCT. Her Bible was worn and ragged and the family lost count as to how many she had worn out. She was kind, intelligent, and full of spunk. She loved her family and loved spending time with all of them. She spent every morning telling them the weather forecast so they would know how to dress and every evening asking tons of questions about how their day had gone. This lovingly earned her the nickname Granny Jackson, FBI which was a play on words with her favorite weatherman, Randy Jackson. She cooked for her family many days and always on Sunday and was well known in the community for her chocolate pies and chicken and dumplings.
She is survived by one daughter, Rita (Tommy) Fagg; two grandchildren, Christi (Brian) Holder and Jimmy Fagg; and three great-grandchildren, Adreanna Holder, Logan Fagg, and Kallie Fagg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Edward, Charlie, James, and Royal Carter; sisters Lonie Beck, Stella Wilkins, Lorene Carter, and Doris Hughes.
Funeral services will be held Sunday January 23rd, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Madison, conducted by Pastor Randy Roberts and Reverend Roy Little. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will lie in state at the church from 2pm-3pm for anyone wishing to pay their respects. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and facial coverings are requested.
Memorials may be made to: Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4543 NC-772 Madison, NC 27025.
The family would like to thank her friend Brenda Hall, Dr. Harry Coletta, Dr. Kirk Sanders, Stokes County Nursing Home (LifeBrite), Trellis Supportive Care of Walnut Cove, and numerous nurses and staff for taking such good care of her.
