ALLEN HATHAWAY

Allen G. Hathaway, a resident of Prineville, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1996, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was 72.

Memorial services were held today at 1 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Pendleton. A second memorial service will be held in Prineville at 11 a.m Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Heritage Chapel at the Prineville Funeral Home.

Mr. Hathaway was born July 20, 1924 in Chico, California to Forrest and Minerva Miller Hathaway. He was raised in and attended schools in eastern Oregon. He moved to Pendleton in the early 40s. He worked for many years at Harris Pine Mills in Pendleton until 1976, when he moved to Prineville and went to work for Pine Products. He worked there until his retirement in 1989.

On June 25, 1977, he married Virginia Langenfeld Blodgett and the couple settled in Prineville, where Mr. Hathaway remained until his death.

He was an avid horseman in his earlier days and was a great fan of music, especially country music. He played both the harmonica and the guitar. He was active in his own band in earlier days.

He was active in baseball and was awarded many trophies and awards for outstanding achievement. Recently, he enjoyed taking walks with his wife and doing woodcrafting, including custom frames.

He was a member of the Prineville Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include: his wife, Virginia of Prineville; children, Twyla Grogan of Elma, Washington; Ronald Hathaway, Imbler and Marlene Hennington of Puxico, Missouri; stepchildren, Bob Blodgett of Heppner and Sharon Cook of Prineville; brother, Harry Hathaway of Baker City and sisters, Edna Johnson of Milton-Freewater; Katherine Crane of Chewlah, Washington; Evelyn Horning of Chico, California and Julia McCorkle of Roseville, California. In addition eight grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
