Ralph August Hotzler was born on October 14, 1920 in Alba Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. His parents were August and Amelia Hesh Hotzler.

As a young boy, Ralph grew up and attended school in Okabena and graduated from the Okabena High School in 1939. He then enlisted in the Navy R.O.T.C. and attended Worthington Junior College. On February 15, 1944, Ralph married Josephine Hornickel in Heron Lake. After their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in Ewington Township. Ralph was also employed by School District 326 as a bus driver and worked at the Okabena Co-op Oil Company. He was employed by Boise Cascade Mobile Homes from 1969 to 1973. For the last seven years, Ralph was self-employed as a Star Route Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a charter member of the Sievert-Peterson American Legion Post 608 and the National Route Association. Ralph was also one of the original members of the German Band.

Ralph passed away on Monday, December 8, 1980 at the Heron Lake Municipal Hospital at the age of 60.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine of Okabena; two sons, Rodger of Lakefield and Jeffrey of Heron Lake; four daughters, Margaret - Mrs. Kenneth Hesemann of Lakefield, Kathleen - Mrs. Terry Barke of Fairmont, Joanne - Mrs. Raphael Bartosh of Dundee, and Elizabeth at home; seven grandchildren; his father, August of Okabena; and three brothers, Harold, Warren and Robert all of Okabena.

Ralph was preceded in death by his mother.
