He enlisted and served as a private in Capt McKeage's Co G 125th Pa Vol in 1862 and after his discharge from that service he re-enlisted and served as Lt. in Co C 76th Pa Vol also Quartermaster of that regiment. (from Donald Coho #47638302)

He married twice, first to Miss Jennie Freer Mar. 21, 1871 in Paris, Ohio, and second Miss Clara Baird in Feb. 1879.

Children: Fred, Hallie Simmons, Mary Harrison, adopted son Mark

He was survived by his wife Clara, son Fred, daughter Hallie Simmons, one brother and three sisters: Adie B Hicks, Miss Elizabeth Hicks, Mrs John Clingerman, all of Altoona, and Mrs Thomas Garrett of Kansas. (Altoona Mirror June 1 1907)
