Glein was the son of Johnny Askew and Susie Mae Brown Askew. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia.

He was married to Alice Lavone Dixon Askew on June 15, 1957.

Survivors:
1 Daughter: Lydia Ann White.
4 Sons: Glenn Oscar Askew Jr, Fredrick Jerome Askew, Charlie Gene Askew and Stephen Kelvin Askew.
3 Daughters-In-Law: Barbara Askew, Alberta Askew and Katrina Askew.
1 Sister: Essie McWilliams.
5 Brothers: C.B. Askew, Richard Askew, Herman Askew, Henry Askew and James Askew.
6 Sisters-In-Law: Annie Lee Askew, Lillie Mae Askew, Mary Askew, Robin Askew, Ruth Askew and Viola Askew.
A Devoted Friend: Alice Askew Rhine.

Services were held Friday, December 31,1993 at 2pm in the Sanctuary of Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia with Rev Carlton Martin officiating.
