Henry was the son of Johnny D. Askew Sr and Susie Mae Brown Askew. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was retired from employment with Medusa Cement Plant in Clinchfield, Georgia. He was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia, where he was Ordained as a Deacon.

He was married to Viola Mobley Askew for 68 years at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Ozella Askew, and 1 son, Ronnie Askew, and 2 sons-in-law, Gregory Scott and Kenneth Lumpkin.

Survivors:
Wife: Viola Askew.
9 Sons: Abraham Askew, Henry L. Askew Jr, Bobby Askew(Oanh), Carl Askew(Denise), Kelvin Askew(Michelle), Terry Askew(Angela), Charles Brown(Sandra), Roy Brown(Buffy) and Willie Brown(Sharon).
6 Daughters: Celestine Brooks(Devone), Vera Scott, Shirley Lumpkin, Vivian Askew, Angela Hite and Henri Mae Barrett(Ricky).
1 Brother: James Askew Sr.

Services were held Saturday, May 27,2017 at 11AM in the Sanctuary of Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia with Rev Derrell C. McIntosh officiating.
