John H. Lattus Rites Friday At Hickman

HICKMAN, Ky., Jan. 28 --Funeral rites for John H. Lattus, 74-year-old -Hickman resident who died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where Mr. Lattus was a member.

Mr. Lattus died at Obion County General Hospital in Union City, Tenn., after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Neel Lattus; four sons, Louis and Lawrence Lattus, both of Pomona, Calif., Frederick Lattus of Owensboro, and Herman Lattus, Greenville, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. Anita Youree, Hickman, Mrs. Calista Harrison, Memphis, Tenn., and Sister Elizabeth Ann Lattus, Louisville; two brothers, J. A. and Charlie Lattus, Fulton; two sisters, Mrs. W. O. Kaufman and Mrs. Katie McNeill, both of Hickman; two step-brothers, Phillip and J. B. Mangold, both of Hickman; and several grandchildren.

Father William Hagman will officiate at the service, with burial in Hickman City Cemetery. Rosary was said Thursday night.

Pallbearers will be Joe, J. C, John Jacob, Thomas, Hugh, Charles, John B., Daniel and Frank Lattus; Fred and Bob Harrison, and Raymond Kaufman.

John Hubert Lattus died Wednesday afternoon, January 27, in Obion County Hospital after an extended illness. He was 74 years old.

He was born in Hickman on November 29, 1896, the son of the late Joseph B. Lattus and Maggie Stahr Lattus. His grandparents were German immigrants who came to America in the 1850's.

Mr. Lattus was a farmer and dairyman most of his life. After raising his family of seven children, he retired from the dairy business and became a gardener and school bus driver until retiring three years ago.
He was a constable in Hickman for the last 20 years of his life. Noted for his kindness, he was often reluctant to arrest people and even took many individuals home rather than put them into the city jail for the night.

Mr. Lattus is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Neel of Fancy Farm, whom he married November 16, 1921. Other survivors are four sons: Frederick J. Lattus of Owensboro; Herman Lattus of Leland, Mississippi; and Louis and Lawrence Lattus of Pomona, California; three daughters; Mrs. Colista Harrison of Memphis, Mrs. Joe Youree of Hickman, and Sister Elizabeth Ann Lattus of Louisville; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katie McNeill and Mrs. W. O. Kaufman of Hickman; a half sister, Mrs. Leo Cissell of Hickman; two brothers, Jacob A. Lattus and Charles A. Lattus of Hickman; and two stepbrothers, Phillip Mangold and G.B. Mangold of Hickman.

Mr. Lattus was preceded in death by one brother, J.B. (Ben) Lattus, and a half brother, Raymond Mangold.

The body lay in state at the Barrett Funeral Home until 10 a.m. on Friday, January 29, when it was transferred to Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. William J. Hagman celebrated the Mass. The burial followed in the Lattus family plot at the Hickman City Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Mr. Lattus' nephews: Joe, Hugh, Thomas, John Jacob, Charles, J.C., Daniel, Frank, and John B. Lattus, and Raymond Kaufman; and grandsons Bob and Fred Harrison.
