Joseph Benjamin (Ben) Lattus, prominent farmer of this community and son of Mrs. Maggie Mangold and the late Joseph Benjamin Lattus, died at Haws Clinic in Fulton, Tuesday, August 3, at 3:10 a.m. following a short illness. He was 58 years of age.
Mr. Lattus, a World War I veteran, served 2 ½ years overseas. He had spent his entire life farming in the vicinity of Hickman. His death was sudden and came as a severe shock to his family and many friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Norine Hunziker Lattus, his mother, Mrs. Maggie Mangold, four children John Benjamin, Joe, Daniel, Lena Margaret and Frank; two sisters, Mrs. Katie McNeill, Mrs. Wilfred Kaufmann; three brothers Jake, Charles and John Lattus and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held with Requiem high mass at the Sacred Heart Church at nine o'clock Thursday morning.
Acolytes were nephews of the deceased as follows: Frederick and Herman Lattus, Vincent Kaufman and Chris Mangold.
Active pallbearers were Raymond Kaufmann, Joe, J.C., John Jacob, Thomas Harold, and Hugh Leonard Lattus, Lester Mangold and Prather Mangold.
Honorary pall bearers were Ernest Johnson, H.W. Whipple Sr., T.H. Streeter, Paul Choate, Fred Ward, Jonas Davie, Pete Roper, Floyd Green Sr., Ples Fields, S.T. Roper, Hugh Garrigan and Dee McNeill.
Burial was at the city cemetery with Barret's funeral service.

The ceremony was performed by Father Gettelfinger. Miss Mildred Ramage, postmistress of Hickman, and Charlie Lattus, brother of the groom, were witness attendants, with Raymond Mangold and Mark Bradley as altar attendants.
As the wedding party entered the church, Miss Margaret Johnson played Mendelssohn's wedding march and during the ceremony the choir sang hymns, with the recessional as they left the church. The ceremony was the nuptial mass.
The bride wore full street outfit, with tan crepe dress, coat and hat. She is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hunzicker, was born and reared in this city, and is one of the best known young women of the city.
Mr. Lattus is a progressive and well to do farmer, residing at Cayce, 10 miles east of here, where they will make their home. He was born and reared just south of Hickman. He also operates a farm at Dorena, Mo., with other business interests in and around Hickman.
