Wayne "Jiggs" Parrish, 81, of Fairview died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at his residence.
He was born Aug. 2, 1919 in Morgantown, son of the late Scott and Laura Parker Parrish.
He worked for 43 years as a coal miner and retired from Loveridge coal mine in Fairview. He worked for UMWA International as a safety inspector, president of the local union #9909, a volunteer for several years with the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, a coach for several years with the Fairview Little League and Pony League baseball and a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Lucas Parrish; four daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Clifton Tennant, Donna and John Hlusko, all of Fairview, JoAnn and Keith Dodd of Grant Town and Wanda and John Monell of Louisville, Ky.; two sons and daugthers-in-law, Greg and Sheri Parrish of Louisville and David and Amy Parrish of Greenriver, Wyo.; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Robin and Richard Cosner of Fairview; one step-son, Michael Lucas of Fairview; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy "Butch" and Catherine Parrish of Fairview; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Iva Ammons; and four brothers, Loyd "Bohunk," Paul "Peanut," Chesney and James "Poke" Parrish.
Friends may call at the Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, in Fairview Monday from 1-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Harker officiating. Burial will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
