Billy "Butch" Parrish passed away Saturday (July 20, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in his homeplace on Jesses Run Road in Fairview. Butch was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Loretta Kathryn "Kate" Parrish; and their daughter, Sonja Parrish Wilson and her husband Mark F. Wilson, who reside in Rivesville. He also is survived by the joys of his life — his grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson and his wife Heather of Fairmont, and Kaylee Wilson and her fiancé Ed Wilson of Morgantown. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford Scott and Laura (Parker) Parrish. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd A. "Bo-Hunk," Charles C. "Chet," James Earl "Poke," Wayne E. "Jiggs," Daniel Paul "Peanut"; and his sisters, Elva Mae and Iva Leona (Ammons). A 1945 graduate of Fairview High School, Butch served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He later studied accounting under the GI Bill of Rights and completed two years at the West Virginia School of Banking. Butch was a member of the Mannington Masonic Lodge No. 31 for 54 years and was initiated on May 19, 1959. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Fairview, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., U.S.A. 18°, and an active member and past president of the Marion County Senior Citizens Travel Club Inc. He was a past member of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department and Fairview Lions Club. Butch spent his life working for the Fairview Water Department, the Bank of Wadestown and Eastern Associated Coal Corp. (Peabody Coal Corp.). He enjoyed the close associations he shared with his family and friends. He loved his summer camp in Tucker County, was an avid card player and loved to work on his 25-acre farm. Butch graciously donated his body to the Human Gift Registry Program at WVU; therefore no funeral visitations services will be held. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
