In 1940, Harry worked as a garmet cutter, making ladies' coats, and Nelle made ladies' dresses. They continued to live with Harry's mother even after his father died in 1937. Harry's mother was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone.
Nelle and Harry later moved to Collinsville, Illinois where they lived for many years. They never had any children.
At the time of her death, Nelle was 86 years, 2 months and 6 days old. She was survived by her husband, Harry; 3 sisters, Rose Fiedler of Hardin, Illinois, Pearl Bishop of Minnesota, and Mae England of St. Louis, Missouri; and 3 brothers, Oliver Fiedler of California, Oren Fiedler of Missouri, and Karl "Bud" Fiedler of Godfrey, Illinois.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. on 16 Apr 1984 at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. the following afternoon at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. Burial was a Wilson Cemetery in Batchtown.
Harry passed away in 1990.
