The son of Charles H. Fiedler and Barbara Fonck, Raus served in the United States Army during World War II. When he was discharged, he was a private first class.

Raus lived at home with his parents until their deaths. He worked in law enforcement in Calhoun County, Illinois and never married.

At the time of his death at Jersey Community Hospital, Raus was 78 years, 8 months and 21 days old. He was survived by 4 sisters, Rose Fiedler of Hardin, Nelle Linstrothe of Collinsville, Illinois, Mae England of Jennings, St. Louis County, Missouri, and Pearl Bishop of Austin, Minnesota; and 3 brothers, Karl "Bud" of Godfrey, Illinois, Oren of Clarksville, Missouri, and Oliver of California.

Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on 07 Feb 1983 at Hanks Funeral Home. A Masonic service took place there at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services were conducted there at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon. American Legion services took place graveside at Wilson Cemetery.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society.

Raus shares a marker with his sister, Rose, who passed away in 1986.
