Moving at Cumberland

The annual change of residence which usually occurs in this vicinity about March 1st, is beginning somewhat earlier this season. Many families are already moving into new homes this city... Mr. and Mrs. James Purdum have rented the property of Louis Stender and removed their household goods to that place Wednesday... Louis Stender and family have shipped their household goods to Keytesville, Mo., where they will reside in the future.

Louis Fritts Christian Stender died at the family home in this city, Sunday morning April 11, 1926 after an illness of several weeks, aged 78 years, 2 months 23 days. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A. J. Waller officiating and the interment was at the Yuma Cemetery.

He was born at Holbaeck, Sogen, Denmark January 18, 1848. He was confirmed into the Lutheran Church when 14 years old. At the age of 19 he came with his parents to America in April 1867 settling at Chebanse, Iroquoise County, Illinois. Later he moved to Missouri where he married Mrs. Zelia Ehrhardt October 5, 1906. In 1919 the family came to Yuma where he lived to the time of his death. He was faithful and good in all of his dealings with others and was respected by all who knew him.

He leaves his wife; one stepson, F. H. Ehrhardt of Boise, Idaho; one brother, John Stender of Greeley; one sister, Mrs. Louise Peterson of Haines, North Dakota, and two half-brothers, James and Peter Anderson of this city.

Ludwig Fritts Christian (Louie) Stender was born on January 18, 1848 in Denmark. He was the son of Sophia (Ott) and Joachim Stender. Louis immigrated to the United States with his widowed mother, Sophia; his three brothers, Charles, John, and William Stender; his step-father, Soren Anderson; and three half-siblings, Peter, James and Louisa Anderson.
