Widow of Palmateer Set-
tlement Dies at Age of 74

ESTACADA, Or., July 29. - (Special.)
-Death today claimed Mrs. Sarah Pal-
mateer, 74, who, with her late hus-
band, John, founded Palmateer settle-
ment, now known as Garfield. She
was one of the most widely known
women of this section. Mr. and Mrs.
Palmateer settled her in 1852.

Five sons and daughters survive.
They are: Lou Palmateer and Mrs.
Irene Duncan, Garfield; William Pal-
mateer, Morgan, Or.; Henry Palmateer
Silverton, Or., and Mrs. Sadie Wade,
Currinsville, Or.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at
2 P. M. from Zion Church.
