George Henry Peterson, son of Charles Sreeve Peterson and Ann Bunting (Dennis), was born in a farmhouse near Rancocas, Burlington, New Jersey.

His parents joined the LDS Church 6 Feb 1842 and soon moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. When persecution there got too severe, many of the Saints migrated to Utah. George and some of his family came to Utah in 1849. George, being only 11 years old at the time, drove 4 yoke of oxen all the way from Missouri to Salt Lake City.

George married his fist wife Eliza Jane Wilde, daughter of William Wilde and Eliza (Phillips) Wilde, 13 March 1860 in Sugarhouse, Salt Lake, Utah. He later also married Mary Ann Robinson in 1871 and Mary Elizabeth Robinson in 1873. With his three wives he had a total of 26 children.

George served a church mission from 1869-1871 in England, Scotland, France and Germany.

George died Cumberland, Lincoln, Wyoming from a wound incurred from an accidental shooting, and was buried in Coalville, Summit, Utah 21 July 1904.
