Joseph McCorkell, 101, of Akron, who leaves 78 descendants, died Wednesday in an Akron hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Rev. Michael Strom will officiate and burial will be in the Riverside cemetery, Akron.
Mr. McCorkell was born Jan. 16, 1869, in Booneville. He married Ida Mae Keech June 21, 1890, at Akron. She died in 1935.
He farmed in the Akron area his whole life, retiring in 1927 and moving into town.
He was an avid baseball fan until the time of his death and in past years was a prominent poultry judge at fairs in the area.
Survivors are three sons, Perry of Lodi, Calif., Leslie of North Sioux City and Clair of Akron; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Herzig of Le Mars; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
