Anna was the oldest of eight children born to Ole Larsen and Anne Ellefsdatter. As Anne was then working on the Mæhlumssveen farm in Ringebu, Anna was likely born there (now Mælumsvea, probably 61.46984, 10.15605). Anna was baptized at the Ringebu Stave Church Sunday, November 20, 1887. By June 1890, the family lived at the Rottaashagen farm (61.48999 10.14292) in Ringebu. Ole and Anne and their three children sailed from Oslo aboard Thingvalla's steamship Amerika on Monday, May 29, 1893, and arrived at Ellis Island June 11, using the name Rottaashagen. They went directly to Rothsay, Minnesota, where they settled in Tanberg twp, Wilkin County, shortening their name to Hagen upon arrival there. The family lived in approximately the area of section 28 from 1893 to 1903.

Anna attended school at District 4 East (now the Tanberg Townhall, 46.48005 96.32213) in Tanberg twp, from October 1898 through the fall of 1902. Anna was confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay Sunday, June 22, 1902. She married Ole J. Lillevold October 15, 1903, at the Hedemarken Lutheran Church parsonage in Oscar twp, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She moved to Ole's farm in sections 22 and 27 of Tanberg twp, and their first two children were born there. In 1909, they moved to a farm in the southeast quarter of section 15, Tanberg twp. Their other seven children were born there, and they raised their family there. Anna continued to run the farm after Ole's death and then rented out the land. She moved into Rothsay in the fall of 1958, and went into Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls in the spring of 1961. She died at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls March 9, 1970.

Anna had dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, like her father. Her mitochondrial haplogroup was H13a1a (from 23andMe tests of more than eight of her female-line relatives).
