"Luther Warner, a pioneer farmer of Hudson Twp, came to Michigan in 1832, when tall forest trees were still over the land where now stand thriving villages. Settlements were few and scattering, and the deep silence of the wilderness was unbroken, save by the occasional ringing of the pioneer's ax, and at night by the howling of the wild animals.

"Mr. Warner was born in Walworth, Wayne, N.Y. Sept 14, 1818 and is the grandson of David Warner, a native of New England, and an early settler of Walworth. It is not known whether his son Russell, the father of our subject, was born in New England or in the State of New York.

"Luther Warner was but a lad of ten years when he had the sad misfortune to lose his father. He remained with his mother for a while, and went to live with an aunt in Monroe Co., [NY] who, in 1831, removed to the Territory of Michigan settling in Oakland Co. He remained with his Aunt in 1839, and then came to this county and bought on section 16 Hudson Twp. a tract of land on which the forest trees were still standing. He built a log house on the place, and cleared the land.

"He married Miss Sarah Carpenter on 6/1841, a native of New York. However, happy was brief as the death of the young wife occurred in the year following their marriage. He married a second time to Melissa Wilson on 6/1845. She also was taken from him after a few years of married life, leaving two children: Beatrice A. and Mark L. He married the third time to Miss Nancy Bennett on 9/7/1858, a native of Columbus, Ohio. One daughter was born, Jennie.

"In politics Mr. Warner has for many years been a faithful follower of the Democratic Party and as an honest man and a good citizen he deserves the respect and consideration in which he is held by all."
