CONSTABLEVILLE — Fay L. Ackerman Jr., 80, of West Road, Constableville, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Lewis County General Hospital, after a long illness.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Pastor Dan Tabolt of the Abundant Life Fellowship in Boonville and Lowville officiating, burial will follow in Turin Cemetery. A gathering at Abundant Life Fellowship, Route 12, Boonville, will follow the burial. Calling hours are Sunday October 25, 2009 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Constableville Fire Department, Constableville, NY 13325 or the Salvation Army, State Street, Watertown, NY 13601.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Marlene; nine children, Valerie and Tom Blackford, Morrisville; Leslie and Don Arthur, Lowville; Katherine, Rebecca, Aaron, and John Ackerman, Constableville; Patrick Ackerman, Turin; Matthew Ackerman, Watertown; Nathan Ackerman, Goochland, VA; one sister Beverly Bronson, West Leyden; sister-in-law Janet Ackerman, Adams; a close family friend Eddy Coffey; a special nephew Donald Stanford, who spent many summers with the family; many nieces nephews and cousins; eight grandchildren and four great grand-daughters. He is predeceased by five sisters Blanche Jones, Grace Doran, Ann Brown, Alaire, Jean Stanford; two brothers Leonard Ackerman, Lincoln Ackerman who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge at age 23.

Mr. Ackerman was born on July 11, 1929 at home in Constableville, a son of the late Fay Sr. and Amelia Meier Ackerman. He graduated from Constableville Central School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. On May 3, 1952 he married Marlene Peterson at St. Mary's Church in Constableville. He bought the Benton Farm on West and Allen Road, Constableville and the couple operated the farm from 1953 for many years until retirement. Fay loved golfing, bowling and horseshoe pitching. He was active with the Constableville bowling league for many years. He also enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and the Outdoors. He is also survived by his faithful dog Huey. He will be greatly missed.
