She was born on March 6, 1916, at Englevale, KS, the daughter of Thomas Ellis and Anna Pearl (Karns) Dawson. She graduated from Arma High School in 1933 and Courtney Business College in 1935.
On June 21, 1948 she was united in marriage to Ernest E. Garrison at Pittsburg, KS, he preceded her in death on November 23, 1998.
Mrs. Garrison was employed at Ramsay's as a bookkeeper, as a timekeeper and payroll clerk during the war for the Municipal Airport, also worked at National Bank as a bookkeeper. She was then employed at Hagman Candy Company as a cost accountant from 1945 to 1950.
She was a member of the South Broadway Baptist Church, where she was a past deaconess and also held an office in the American Baptist Women's Association. She worked on the election board for 35 years, and for several years as supervising judge.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Garrison of Frontenac, KS; a son, Ron Garrison and wife, Karen of Tulsa, OK; and a granddaughter, Kim Miller and her husband, James and grandson, Jeff Garrison; and a great-granddaughter due in September; two brother-in-laws, Kenneth Bean and Bill Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother William Dawson, six sisters; Gladys M. Appino, Dorothy Pugh, Helen Bean, Jean Volz, Norma Brown and Goldie Morrell.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (July 16) at the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, with Rev. Dan Moss officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The family suggests memorials to the South Broadway Baptist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
