Norma Jean (Dawson) Brown, age 77, Carl Junction, Mo., died on March 7, 2006, following an illness. Norma was born June 14, 1928, in Englevale, Kan., to Thomas Dawson and Pearl Karns Dawson. Norma graduated from high school in Arma, Kan., in 1946, and then she worked for Western Union. She married William E. (Bill) Brown on June 16, 1949, in Pittsburg, Kan. She was a wonderful wife and a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Bill Brown; sons, Mike Brown and wife, Pattye, of Joplin, and Tom Brown and wife, Shirley, of Trophy Club, Texas; daughters, Brenda Waterman and husband, Mark, and LeAnn Shallenburger and husband, Danny, both from Carl Junction, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Aleen Garrison, of Pittsburg, Kan., and Gladys Appino, of Frontenac, Kan.; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bean, of Westin, Texas, and Herb Volz, of Bartlesville, Okla.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; a brother, Ellis Dawson; sisters, Goldie Morrell, Dorothy Pugh, Jean Volz and Helen Bean; and a granddaughter, Amanda Waterman. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeff Brown, Jason Brown, Greg Brown, Brian Waterman, Mitchell Shallenburger, Kody Shallenburger, Kevin Trotman, Cody Davenport and Nathan Vowiell. Visitation will be at Parker Mortuary on Friday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Byers, in Joplin with Rev. Brian Chaffin officiating. Interment will follow at Black Jack Cemetery.
