Abbie Bernasek Fujan, daughter of Cyril Bernasek and Marie Andel Bernasek was born on a farm southeast of Milligan on November 29, 1897. She passed away April 11, 1993, at the Friend Manor, at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 12 days.

She attended country school at District 67 and 32, and then helped her family with the farming operations. On March 28, 1921, she was married to Frank R. Fujan of Milligan and to them one daughter was born. They lived on a farm near Bruning. In 1940, they moved to a farm near Milligan and later purchased part of this farm.

Abbie's husband, Frank, passed away on February 9, 1967, and she continued to live on the farm with the help of her daughter, Erma and son-in-law, Joe F. Maresh, who lived close by. Neighbors, Leo and Helen Fujan and Rudy and Louise Capek, and their son, Glen, also helped her as long as she was able to be on the farm. In the fall of 1986, her failing health required that she enter the Friend Manor. Leo and Helen continued to help her on the farm following her admission to the nursing home.

Abbie enjoyed rural farm life and spent her time helping her husband with field work and at home in the kitchen. In her spare time she enjoyed planting tees and flowers and raising chickens and cattle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister in infancy, Louis Bernasek and Albina Bernasek; husband, Frank; daughter and son-in-law, Erma and Joseph F. Maresh; sister, Mary Sluka; brothers, Emil Bernasek and James Bernasek.

She is survived by a brother, Cyril M. Bernasek and by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel, in Milligan at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Mrs. Diane Zeleny accompanied Robert Kassik who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" in Czech and "In the Garden."

Casket bearers were Irvin Sluka, Glen Capek, Rudy Capek, Kenneth G. Chromy, Edward F. Fujan and Neil Priefert. Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery south of Milligan.
