Thanks to Contributor M. Jensen Seggerman, #47078678, for the following:

Cyrill Bernasek, the son of Joseph Bernasek and Josepha (nee Ubanek) was born July 10, 1865, at the village of Bohi in Czechoslovakia. He was baptized in infancy.

He came to Nebraska in April, 1879, with his parents, his brother Frank and sister, Marie. The pioneer family settled near Milligan, where they built a sod house and engaged in farming.

May 16, 1889, Cyrill was united in marriage to Marie Andel of Chicago, Ill. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy.

They farmed in Glengary and Chelsea Townships, until 1922, when Mrs. Bernasek passed away. He continued to live on the farm with his son Emil, until retirement in 1927. He moved to Milligan and was actively interested in horticulture, which brought him much enjoyment in his declining years.

He enjoyed his family and grandchildren and his kindly disposition endeared him to many.

Three years ago he entered the Ferguson Nursing Home in Crete because of failing health. Two months ago he became bedfast due to a stroke. Tuesday morning, October 21, 1958, he passed away at the rest home in Crete at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 11 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marie; a daughter, Mary (Mrs. John Sluka); two infant children and a brother, Frank.

Survivors include his sister, Marie (Mrs. Vaclav Koca); three sons, Cyrill M. and James V. of Geneva and Emil J. of Ohiowa; one daughter, Abbie (Mrs. Frank R. Fujan) of Milligan; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge No. 420 of Milligan and received a gold membership pin in 1951.

Funeral services were conducted from the Milligan auditorium Friday, October 24, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Walter Bachman of Geneva officiating. John J. Oliva spoke in behalf of Milligan Lodge No. 420. Mrs. Albert Kassik and Robert Kassik sang"Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Mrs. Herman Michl.

A large number of relatives and friends were present and accompanied the body to the Bohemian National Cemetery, where he was laid to rest beneath a beautiful blanket of floral tributes. Pallbearers were Albert Kassik Sr., Joseph Korbelik Sr., Louis Suda, James V. Koca, John Kucera Sr. and William H. Kotas.
