John H. Virgin was born to John Hyatt Virgin and to Margaret Hughes on September 16, 1830. According to his U.S. Census Records, he was born in Kentucky. Although John's parents do not have any Census records that show that they lived in Kentucky, the fact is that John's Great Grandparents (Rezin Virgin and Jemima Arnold) had migrated there from Pennsylvania around 1800 and there were numerous relative of John's family living in that state around the time that he was born.
John's middle name was probably "Hyatt", although I (Anastasia Schmidt) have found no written evidence, as of June 11, 2013, to indicate the veracity of this.
John's first Wife was Mary Emily Gibbs, who he married on October 16, 1856 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Mary was born on April 28, 1838 and she died on December 31, 1891.
John H. Virgin and Mary Emily Gibbs had the following children:
1. CHARLES VIRGIN was born on August 26, 1857 in Illinois. Charles married Hattie Ellen Lathom on Feburary 2, 1888 in Morgan County, Illinois. Hattie was the Daughter of William Jackson Lathom and Rhoda Jane Lynn. She was born on April 24, 1869 in Prentice Township, Morgan County, Illinois and died on August 24, 1950 in Morgan County, Illinois. Charles died on September 20, 1927 in Jacksonville Township, Morgan County, Illinois.
2. HATTIE E. VIRGIN (most commonly known as "Harriet") was born on December 6, 1858 in Illinois. Hattie married George E. Deweese. She died on January 3, 1944 in Jacksonville Townshp, Morgan County, Illinois. She is buried at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville.
3. CLARA VIRGIN was born in 1866 in Illinois.
4. ANNA VIRGIN was born in 1870 in Illinois.
5. LUELLA F. VIRGIN was born on January 30, 1872. She died on 15 Oct 1900. She was living with her Stepmother and siblings after Father, John, died.
6. JOHN VIRGIN was born in 1877 in Illinois.
7. BYRON VIRGIN was born in 1879 in Illinois.
John remarried after Mary's death. His second Wife was Martha S. Conway (also known as "Mattie"). Martha and John married on June 20, 1895 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Martha was born in April of 1867 in Kentucky.
John Virgin died on November 18, 1898 in Illinois. After John's death, Martha is shown living with John's biological children by his first Wife.
John, his first Wife, Mary, and their Daughter, Luella F. Virgin, are buried in Indian Point Cemetery.
