Viola Bolte Hiatt of Cylinder died Friday, Sept. 26, 1986, at Palo Alto County Hospital. She was 84.
Services for Mrs. Hiatt, were held Monday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville. The Rev. Robert Riggert officiated.
Burial was in the Fairville Cemetery. The Martin Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Mrs. Hiatt's grandsons, Dennis Walton, Duane Walton, Devon Walton, George Bolte, David Bolte and Gary Bolte.
Viola Anna Emma Gremmels was born June 2, 1902, in Fairville, the daughter of George W. and Clara (Schallin) Gremmels. She lived in the Fairville-Fenton area all of her life; 62 years in the same house where she was born. She had Alzheimer's Disease and had been a resident of the Emmetsburg Care Center for three years.
On Nov. 24, 1920, Viola and George Bolte were married at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville. He preceded his wife in death on April 22, 1952. On Nov. 9, 1954, Viola was married to Monte Hiatt. He preceded his wife in death on June 17, 1967.
Mrs. Hiatt was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Fairville. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts.
Survivors include a daughter, Ivadell Walton of Ames; a son, Delond Bolte of Cylinder; a step daughter, Marianne Reed of Sacramento, Calif.; three step sons, Max Hiatt of Emmetsburg, Jim Hiatt of Cedar Rapids, and Richard Hiatt of Aurora, Colo; 28 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; and a half-sister, Eva Bach of Salem, Ore.
Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Raymond and Arthur; two half-brothers; Roy and Leo; a half-sister, May Bach; and two step daughters, Margaret Woodhouse and Phyllis Hamilton.
