Mrs. Gremmels was preceded in death by her husband in 1936. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. M. E. Hiatt (Viola), Fairville, and a son, Raymond Gremmels, Cedar Rapids; also surviving are two step-daughters, whom she raised since they were young girls, Mrs. May Bach and Mrs. Laurence Bach, both of Salem, Ore.
Other survivors include two brothers, John Schallin, Lotts Creek, and Frank Schallin, Algona; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Clara Schallin was born Feb. 5, 1875, at Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of John and Wilhelmina Schallin. She came to the Lotts Creek community of Kossuth county as an infant. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith April 20, 1875 and was confirmed March 25, 1888 by the Rev. C. F. W. Maahs, pastor at Lotts Creek. On Aug. 6, 1901 she was married to George Gremmels at Algona.
Mrs. Gremmels has been a patient at Lakeview Nursing home the past year and had been a patient in the local hospital several times during the year. She died at the Nursing home Wednesday, Jan. 14. She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son, Ray Gremmels of Montana, six sisters and three brothers
