George William Gremmels, 68, a respected resident of the Fairville community, died Thursday evening at his home in Fairville after an illness of little more than a day. He owned and operated the Fairville store, retiring from business about ten years ago.

Mr. Gremmels was born in Dubuque county May 24, 1868, and in 1901 he was to Clara Schallin of Kossuth county. Besides his wife and two children, Mrs. George Bolte of Fenton and Raymond Gremmels at home, he is survived by three children from a former marriage, Mrs. Joe Back and Mrs. Lawrence Bach of Salem, Oregon, and Roy Gremmels of Columbia Falls, Montana. He also leaves four brothers, Fred Gremmels of Dubuque, Louis Gremmels of Clifton, Minnesota, Walter Gremmels of Spirit Lake, and Julius Gremmels of Fenton, a sister, Mrs. Fred Kuecker of Fenton, and 12 grandchildren. Two sons, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Luke’s Lutheran church at Fairville, the Rev. H. D. Stahmer officiating, Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the Fairville cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Langerman, Henry Wegener, Joe Kliegl, Harve Higley, Frank Humphrey and Ed Greinert.

Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral services were B. C. Nemitz and son, Maynard, of Hampton, Fred Gremmels and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wilbur of Dubuque
